FAISALABAD:

Scores of residents of Ghulam Muhammadabad on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against police for failing to arrest child abuse suspects in the neighbourhood.

The protesters carried banners and placards. They gathered at Zila Council Chowk where they also staged a sit-in.

Talking to newsmen, Zaheer Arshad, one of the protesters, said his nephew had been assaulted by two neighbours two weeks ago.

“We complained about the incident to Ghulam Muhammadabad police but they are asking us to withdraw the complaint,” he said.

He said the investigation officer had been bribed. The protesters blocked University Road and suspended traffic for several hours.

The protesters chanted slogans against police and demanded immediate arrest of the suspects.

Later, Mumtaz Haidar, a representative of the CPO, met the protesters and assured them that the matter would be investigated and those found guilty would be arrested. The protesters dispersed on receiving his assurance.
