Several workers rescued from fire at Rawalpindi mart

The victims were safely rescued by Rescue 1122 personnel.

A fire broke out in a private mart situated on Police Foundation 9 PWD Road in the federal capital on Friday, trapping 25 employees in the multi-storey property. The victims were safely rescued by Rescue 1122 personnel who used a special snorkel vehicle.

The blaze erupted on the upper floor of the mart around 6am, forcing the employees, who were residing in the mart, to take shelter on the roof.

After getting alerted, Rescue 1122 firefighters and Lohi Bher police reached the spot and started the rescue operation. According to a Rescue 1122 spokesman, 25 rescue personnel and firefighters with the support of eight emergency vehicles participated in the operation and safely rescued the employees trapped on the roof of the building using a special vehicle.

The fire, which was said to be caused by a short-circuiting, was extinguished and the cooling process was completed. According to rescuers, the exact cause of the fire would be clear in further investigation. The exact loss of property and valuables was not known.

Meanwhile, another fire broke out in an electricity meter installed outside a citizen's house in Firdosi Lane in the limits of the Civil Line police station. The patrolling cops of the Tariqabad police chowki extinguished the fire by throwing water on it.
