Building ties: Celebrations held to mark Indonesia’s Independence Day

Relations between the two countries will further strengthen in days ahead, says consul-general

KARACHI: A flag hoisting ceremony, to mark the 70th Independence Day of Indonesia, was held at the consulate general of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi.

A group of Indonesian youths hoisted the national flag of Indonesia and sang the national anthem. Pakistanis, Indonesian community and students living in the city and the families of the consulate staff attended the event.

Republic of Indonesia consul-general Hadi Santoso spoke about the Indonesian people who laid their lives in the struggle for independence. Santoso also distributed special honoraria to the families of those Pakistanis who sacrificed their lives during their independence war in 1945.

Santoso extended felicitations and best wishes to Pakistanis and the government on the 68th anniversary of Pakistan. He said that relations between the two countries, Indonesia and Pakistan, will further strengthen in days ahead.

On the occasion, Indonesian consul-general and the National Forum for Environment and Health also held a tree plantation campaign led by the consul-general and accompanied by Pakistan-Indonesia Business Forum chairperson and secretary, Pakistan-Indonesian Friendship Society and members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
