Barred: PHC halts GIDC collection

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court barred the government from collecting Gas Infrastructure Development Cess from Tops Food Industry Ltd on Wednesday. A petition was filed by the company’s counsel Shumail Butt before the court of Justice Musarrat Hilali. Butt said both Sindh and Balochistan have already been exempted from GIDC collection and recovery of such arrears from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is an injustice. After hearing the arguments, the court barred the government from collecting the cess from the company. The high court has already issued a stay order in this regard which is yet to be vacated.
