New to office: Councillors to take oath on Aug 29

If any of the councillors does not make it to the ceremony, the council’s nazim or naib nazim will administer oath

The Election Commission of Pakistan announced the schedule for the final phase of the local government elections on Wednesday wherein district returning officers who administer oath to district and tehsil councillors on August 29.


Once the councillor-elects are in office, the nomination process for nazims and naib nazims for both districts and tehsils will be completed within a day after which, they will be elected. The DROs shall distribute copies of the oath and read out the text which the council members will repeat after them. If any of the councillors does not make it to the ceremony, the council’s nazim or naib nazim will administer oath to them at a later stage.
