Murder case: SC rejects bail plea of ANP MPA

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of MPA Shakeel Umerzai of the ANP from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in a murder case.

A three-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Shakirullah Jan and Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed heard the case.

MPA, Shakeel Umerzai was allegedly involved in the murder of former MPA, Alamzeb Umerzai.

Muazzam Butt, the counsel for the aggrieved family, informed the court that all three murder witnesses have recorded their statements before the court and the investigation has been completed. “Therefore, the bail application of the accused should not be accepted,” he added.

Qazi Muhammad Anwar, the counsel for the accused argued before the court that further investigation must be carried out to determine the MPA’s culpability. He pleaded before the court to accept his client’s bail application.

The court after hearing the counsels’ arguments rejected the MPA’s bail application.

MPA Shakeel Umerzai along with his nephews killed Alamzeb Umerzai on April 22, 2010 by firing multiple bullets at him.

The Peshawar High Court had rejected the bail plea of the accused which had been challenged in the apex court.
