FAISALABAD: University of Agriculture (UAF) Faculty of Agriculture Dean Muhammad Arshad said on Tuesday that scores of trees were being felled due to increased urbanisation and population growth.

Arshad was speaking at a seminar organised in connection with the National Tree Plantation Day at the UAF. The initiative was taken to raise public awareness regarding deforestation and its environmental ramifications.

Arshad said deforestation had been rising due to the need of housing an ever-expanding number of people. He stressed the need for raising public awareness regarding the importance of trees. Arshad said trees played a pivotal role in safeguarding the planet from devastating climate catastrophes and produced oxygen.

A walk was also organised in connection with the day.
