LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has so far evacuated 81,864 people in flood-hit districts of the province, Rescue 1122 Director Brig (r) Dr Arshad Zia said on Monday.

“Around 25,934 people have been evacuated in Layyah, 9,407 in Rahim Yar Khan, 10,033 in Muzaffargarh, 792 in Khushab and 13,627 in Rajanpur,” he said.

Zia said that major rescue operations were conducted in Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur districts.

“The rescue operation will continue throughout the flood season,” he said.

According to the Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service, 4,262 people were rescued from Sumra Nashaib, 473 from Lohanch Nashaib, 624 from Dewan Chowk, 420 from Bakhri Ahmed Khan, 406 from Basti Gurmani, 20 from Mongar, 554 from Mouza Shahwala, 3,185 from Wara Sehr, 2,589 from Basti Jakhar, 216 from Maqsood Chowk, 1,788 from Sheenwala village and 1,067 from Basti Kanjal in Layyah district.

A total of 4,224 flood-affected people were evacuated from Chachran Sharif, 3,416 from Chuhan village, 1,378 from Bhong and 389 from Abadpur in Rahim Yar Khan district. Similarly, 361 people were evacuated from Tari Khel Kacha, 282 from Mouch Kacha, 288 from Namal Jheel and 309 from Rokharri Kacha in Mianwali district. A total of 2,384 people were evacuated from Kundai, 1,795 from Bangla Hinjra, 429 from Left Marginal Band and 4,909 from Sarki Band in Muzaffargarh district.

The monitoring cell said that 1,375 people were evacuated from Nishter Ghat, 245 from Bhagsar, Rojhan, 375 from Bait Sontra, 277 from Rojhan Garh, 7,581 from Wang, 3,038 from Aqilpur and 316 from Talliwala Bandro in Rajanpur district.

Accidents

Two people lost their lives and 570 others were injured in 659 road accidents in the province during Sunday-Monday.

According to the Rescue 1122’s Provincial Monitoring Cell, 257 people who sustained minor injuries were provided first aid on the spot.

According to the data, 289 drivers, 13 underage drivers, 117 pedestrians and 423 passengers were among the victims of the accidents.

The statistics showed that 144 accidents were reported in Lahore, in which 178 people were affected; 62 accidents were reported in Faisalabad with 77 fatalities and 47 accidents were reported in Gujranwala with 52 fatalities.

A total of 548 motorbikes, 96 auto rickshaws, 64 cars, 32 vans, three passenger buses and 10 trucks were involved in the accidents.
