High alert: Security beefed up across the province

Officials’ deployment increased at all entrances to the city

LAHORE: The Police Department has put its officials across the province on high alert and directed them to beef up security arrangements for important personalities and places following the death of Home Minister Col (r) Shuja Khanzada in a suicide blast at his hometown in Attock.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Syed Hammad Raza, public relations officer for the Operations DIG, said directives had been issued to the city police to increase the number of officials assigned for security duties at all inter-district roads leading to the city. He said police had been asked to check every vehicle leaving or entering the city on these roads.

The PRO said the scope of search operations underway in the city would be expanded and anyone found involved in suspicious activities would be caught for questioning.

He said Lahore CCPO Amin Vains had shared the directive with all SSPs, ASPs/DSPs and SHOs in the city.

The directives issued from the office of the Inspector General of the Police (IGP) for other district police offices sought intensive patrolling on all major thoroughfares in the districts. It also sought increased surveillance of crowded public places and directed that policemen in plain-clothes be deployed at these places for the purpose.
