LAHORE: Students put up stalls showcasing the culture of at least 38 countries at the Lahore University of Management Sciences Model United Nations (LUMUN) Conference on Thursday evening.

Students were given one month to research their countries and prepare presentations on how that country changed or ‘could change’ the world for the ‘Global Village’ event. The most impressive displays were for Argentina, Chile, Kenya, Somalia, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and Malaysia.

“It has been an exciting experience researching and preparing presentations about a place we’ve never been to,” said a student in charge of the Finland stall. “It has brought us closer to the country and its people. Not to mention we all know where we want to take our next holiday now.”

Bilal, who put on the Argentina stall, said the experience had been very informative. “I actually managed to contact several people from Argentina on the Internet. I feel like I know more about the place than its football record now,” he said.

Thursday’s events also included a video conference with Matt Brown of Global Zero “Last year he gave a very inspirational talk about how the global community needed to come together for the elimination of nuclear weapons and how we all needed to join in,” said LUMUN representative Nadir. “This year he expanded on the theme and also told us about his documentary on the subject.”
