QUETTA: A tribal leader, Mir Ali Muhammad, along with four others were shot dead Wednesday, when unidentified armed assailants opened fire at their convoy in Gidar Valley near the Surab area of Kalat District. 

According to sources, three other people were also injured in the incident and were shifted to a nearby health unit for immediate treatment, while the deceased were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Kalat.

No responsibility has been claimed for the incident thus far.

Officials arrived at the scene after which the area was cordoned off for investigation, and the reason behind the attack has not yet been ascertained.

In a separate incident, Frontier Corps (FC) and security officials carried out a raid in Kharan district where they arrested four militants of the defunct Baloch Liberation Front.

According to an FC spokesperson, five automatic weapons along with extremist literature were recovered from the possession of the accused, further adding that investigation is underway.
