Honour killing: Couple gunned down in Ghizer

The couple had married in court 10 months ago against the wishes of their families

A couple was gunned down in a market in Gahkuch area of Ghizer Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday.


Zahir Shah and his wife had gone shopping when two assailants opened fire on them. Both husband and wife died on the spot while the attackers managed to escape.


The couple had married in court 10 months ago against the wishes of their families. Zahir was a resident of Bubar Valley while his wife was from Sharote village.


SHO Amjad Hussain immediately arrived on the scene and conducted a search operation. However, no arrests were made. The bodies were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Ghizer for an autopsy. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.


Separately, an educationist from Ghizer, Karim Panah, and his two children died in a road accident. He was travelling to Gilgit when their vehicle plunged into a roadside gorge. Karim, his five-year-old son, Farrukh, and nine-year-old daughter, Aini, lost their lives. Two of their relatives were injured in the incident. They were rushed to a hospital for medical assistance. Karim was affiliated with USAID.
