Pakistan lodges protest with India over cross border killing of woman along LoC

Indian deputy high commissioner was summoned to the foreign office on Tuesday and a protest was lodged

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday lodged a protest with Indian mission in Islamabad over the killing of 28-year-old Fareeda, a resident of Nadheri village in District Kotli along the Line of Control on August 8.


According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, India’s deputy high commissioner was summoned to the Foreign Office on Tuesday by Director General (SA & SAARC) to lodge a protest over the incident.

“Fareeda succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, and the government of Pakistan offers its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family," reads the statement. She had received bullet wounds in her stomach from firing across from the LOC.

Pakistan also condemned the latest unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian security forces at the LoC in Nakial sector near Kotli and Bhimber Gali sector on August 9, in which Pakistani posts were targeted, the statement added.

The statement said Indian security forces have committed 37 and 24 unprovoked ceasefire violations along the LoC and the Working Boundary respectively since July.

“The government of Pakistan expressed its deep concern at the continuous unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian side and urged India to stop forthwith the ceasefire violations and observe the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding to create peace and tranquility at the LoC and the Working Boundary.”
