Gunned down: Peace committee leader killed

The 55-year-old was affiliated with Awami National Party

A peace committee leader was killed in a targeted attack in Soripao area of Maidan tehsil in Lower Dir on Monday.


An official of Zaimdara police station, Nazeer Khan, said the peace committee leader Dilawar Khan was en route to his house after offering the morning prayers when an improvised explosive device went off, killing him on the spot.


Soon after the explosion, security officials reached the site and launched a search operation but no arrests were made till the filing of this report. However, a statement was sent to the media by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which claimed responsibility for the murder.


Dilawar had joined the peace committee in 2009, The Express Tribune learnt. He is said to have played an important role for establishing peace in the area. The 55-year-old was affiliated with Awami National Party.
