Resolution passed: K-P wants marriage laws for minorities

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a resolution asking the National Assembly to regulate matters pertaining to the marriages of Hindus and Christians. Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi presented the resolution.


The assembly also passed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police Order (Amendment) Act 2015 under which Dispute Resolution Councils (DRC) were incorporated in the act from the Chief Executive Order No 22, 2002.

Awami National Party’s Syed Jafar Shah proposed an amendment in Clause 2 of the act under which DRC members should be reputable people known for impartiality and every council should include a minimum of one woman.

The amendment was adopted. Qureshi also presented the K-P Prevention of Conflict of Interest Bill 2015 which could not be passed as members of the opposition said they have not read the draft as yet.
