PESHAWAR: Even though a ban has been imposed on vehicles with tinted glasses, such cars can be seen speeding down the city’s roads all the time. In a bid to curb the violations of law, the traffic police have decided to crack down against all such vehicles.

Over 250 such vehicle owners have been penalised in the past three days. Talking to The Express Tribune, a traffic police official said the decision was taken to improve the law and order situation as vehicles with tinted glasses are majorly used by anti-social elements. “As you know, the glass itself is not black. A sticker is pasted on it. We are not seizing vehicles. We are only removing the stickers.”

He said the campaign will continue for a week as these vehicles pose a serious security risk to the city. “Luxury SUVs with tinted glasses have become a status symbol amongst the privileged class. Action will be taken against all such vehicle owners,” he added.

It is pertinent to note that a few years back the police had asked those workshops in the city that were dealing with these stickers to shut their operations down. Recently these shops have mushroomed yet again across the provincial capital. Only the home department is authorised to issue permits for tinted glass only after careful consideration.
