ISLAMABAD:

Many industrial and energy zones would be set up along with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) - a gigantic project that will attract investment of around $45 billion, said Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab.

“The corridor is an economic growth belt, which will be constructed by China and Pakistan together on the basis of comprehensive planning in order to ensure sustainable development,” he said.

“The MoU for the development of CPEC envisages connecting Pakistani ports to western China,” he said, adding the survey of the corridor was yet to be finalised.

Responding to a question, Aftab said it was the desire of the government to link maximum cities with the economic corridor as it would also create employment opportunities for many.

“Fruits of this (infrastructure and energy) project will be shared by the two countries jointly and will be spread across all areas.”
