LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday converted the removal of a Quaid-i-Azam Library sweeper into compulsory retirement while hearing an appeal by the Punjab government against his restoration by the Service Tribunal.

Appearing before the court on behalf of the Punjab government, Advocate Salma submitted that the sweeper, Riaz Masih, was removed from service on September 5, 2006 after two years’ absence from service. She said that his restoration would become a precedent. The court converted Masih’s removal into compulsory retirement.
