CNS Golf Open Championship : Munir holds lead as Shabbir jumps to sixth

The defending champion makes a strong comeback from the 54th spot.

KARACHI: Islamabad-based golfer Muhammad Munir maintained his lead on the second day of the UMA 20th CNS Golf Open Championship after aggregating 11-under-par 133, while defending champion Shabbir Iqbal jumped to the sixth spot after registering the highest score on Friday at the Karachi Golf Club.

Munir faced mixed fortunes on day two following his seven-under-par on the opening day as he hit three birdies, two eagles and three bogies to close play with four-under-par 68.

Shabbir, who was on the 54th spot on Thursday, made a comeback by firing three birdies and two eagles to finish on seven-under-par 65.

Following Munir is Ahmed Shahid Murtaza on second at three-under-par 69, while Waheed Baloch takes the third spot with two-under-par 70.

Meanwhile, Hamza Amin, who recently participated in the OneAsia tour, ended the day on fourth with a six-under-par 66, followed by Matloob Ahmed with the same score.

The matches for senior professionals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, while matches for senior amateurs, veterans, ladies and juniors will be played on Saturday.
