RAWALPINDI: The government has allocated Rs2 billion for the reconstruction of four major highways in the city. The first is the Murree Road–9th Avenue ‘signal-free’ project. Sources say the district administration will construct an underpass or overhead bridge at the IJ Principal Road to link Murree Road with Islamabad’s 9th Avenue via Stadium Road. The signal-free Stadium Road link to 9th Avenue will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs160 million, with the underpass or overhead bridge estimated to cost between Rs1 billion to Rs1.5 billion. The route on Airport Road from Nur Khan Airbase to Koral Chowk will also be reconstructed at a cost of Rs500 million. Lastly, Rs300 million have been allocated to construct a road linking the high court to Chaklala Scheme III, as well as for converting the five kilometre tract of Adiala Road approaching Adiala Jail into a dual carriageway.
