Touseef wins cycling gold for Pakistan at Special Olympics

Athletes continue to make the nation proud with their superb performances in basketball, swimming and sprinting

LOS ANGELES: Honour of the Day was for Special Olympian cyclist Touseeful  Hasan  who bagged gold in 10 kilometer race at Long beach , Los Angles  in the Special  Olympics World Games on Friday.

Touseef's timing was 22:58:90 as silver medallist Albalooshi Moosa of UAE was only less than two seconds behind with 23:00:16. Bronze went to special Olympian Rignaakos Georgios of Greece.

Six cyclists competed in this division competition.

Saira Ikram bagged the silver medal for Pakistan in the 100 metre-sprint with a time of 00:18:39. The gold went to Verrissoun Fatima Zahara of Morroco with 00:17:62.

The swimmer Asim Zar, gold medallist of 100-metre, added another feather in his cap by coming second in 50-meter freestyle with an impressive timing of 00:58:73.

In traditional basketball pre-final competition, Pakistan played a cliff hanger against Poland and emerged on top to win the match with a score of 20-17. The performer of the match was Pakistan’s Muhammad Usman who got the basket six times.

In football 5-a-side event, Pakistan is now out of Gold medal race as it lost in the semi-final and will be playing for third on Saturday morning.
