KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) two-week camp for young and upcoming fast-bowlers spearheaded by Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram will begin on Saturday at the National Stadium of Karachi.

The camp will run from August 1-13 where budding pacers will learn the finer points of fast-bowling from the master.

The national selectors have named Mir Hamza (Karachi), Ahmed Jamal (Abbottabad), Majid Ali (Multan), Taj Wali (Peshawar), Ammad Butt (Sialkot), Amir Yamin (Multan), Azizullah (Peshawar), Muhammad Irfan (Wapda/Sialkot), Sameen Gul (Fata), Altaf Khan (Peshawar), Bilalwal (Lahore) and Ziaul Haq (Lahore) in the camp.

Left-armer Mir Hamza is already knocking at the doors of international cricket after strong performances in the domestic circuit. He shows similarities to Junaid Khan, who is known for the art of moving the ball both ways, and has been highly regarded by the selectors.

The camp, which included a talent hunt to bring unknown pacers to the fore, has been staged in collaboration with the LG Super Speed Star programme.

So far, Bilal Shah (Mardan), Ejaz Ali (Charsadda), Umair (Peshawar) and Afraz Khoso (Sukkur) have been called up in the camp.

Due to the recent spell of rain all over Pakistan, LG Super Speed Star Trials in Quetta and Mirpur had been postponed to August 1 and August 4 respectively, and those selected from these cities/regions shall be announced after the trials.

For practice sessions during the camp at Karachi’s National Stadium, the national selection committee has invited batsmen Ali Asad, Saad Ali, Saud Shakil, Khurram Manzoor, Muhammad Hassan and Muhammad Waqas.
