Poor Sanitation: Report sought on disposal station

LAHORE: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) sought a report on Thursday from the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) on the functioning of Chauburji Sanitation Disposal Station. The court also sought details of 10 stay orders that the Lahore High Court (LHC) had issued on the sanitation system in Lahore. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry held proceedings on asuomotu notice the court had taken two years ago regarding poor sanitation system around the SC Lahore Registry’s building. WASA Managing Director Chaudhry Naseer appeared before the court on Thursday.Justice Nisar asked him when the sanitation system around the SC Lahore Registry would be improved.  Naseer said the WASA’s Chauburji Sanitation Disposal Station would start working soon. “On its completion,50 percent of the problem will be solved,” he said. He said the problem could not be solved completely because of the “ups and downs”of the drainage line. He said some citizens had obtained stay orders against sanitation projects. The court then ordered him to submit a report at the next hearing on the functioning of the Chauburji Disposal Station and stay orders issued by the LHC.
