KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been restrained from stopping the supply of gas to compressed natural gas (CNG) stations by a division bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC).

Earlier, SSGC had decided to curtail the supply of gas to CNG stations for two days a week.

The bench was hearing a constitutional petition on Tuesday filed by Shakeel Ahmed and 54 other owners of CNG stations as well as individual consumers.

The petitioners maintained that the closure of CNG stations would prove detrimental for thousands of consumers who have installed CNG fuel tanks in their vehicles, hundreds of CNG station owners and thousands of workers employed at these stations.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the bench, while passing an order of restraint, issued notices to the respondents including secretary for the Ministry of Petroleum, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and SSGC.
