In a post on micro-blogging website Twitter, he captioned a photograph of him signing a record deal: "I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !! ... #REALME (sic)"

Since departing One Direction earlier this year, Malik has been rumoured to be working on his solo music. Earlier this month, reports emerged claiming that he was dropped from Simon Cowell's Syco record label. Cowell also congratulated Zayn Malik on Twitter:
