MINGORA:

A brother and sister were gunned down in an apparent case of ‘honour killing’ in Kabal tehsil of Swat district on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, an official of Kabal police said Abdur Rahman, a resident of Dherai village, had developed differences with his wife, Sajida Bibi, after she eloped with Nisar Khan, a dentist.

“Sajida Bibi’s family had helped her elope,” the official added. “Abdur Rahman, who is also a police officer, was looking for the couple, spotted his wife with her brother, Usman and opened fire on them.” The assailant tried to escape after committing the crime but was subsequently arrested by the police.

According to the official, Sajida Bibi and Usman were initially wounded and rushed a hospital nearby. However, both siblings succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.  “During interrogation, Abdur Rahman has confessed to killing his wife and brother-in-law,” the official added. A case has been registered against the incident and further investigation is under way.
