Sexual harassment: Seminary head booked in Haripur

HARIPUR:

A case was registered against a seminary head for allegedly attempting to sexually harass a student in a village of Ali Khan union council, the police said on Tuesday.

City police quoted Mehtab of Palghar Jogi village as saying his 12-year-old nephew Shahwar* was enrolled for last few years at Jamia Taleemul Quran, Ghosiya Mehriya in Moonan village. He added that when the boy returned home for Eid holidays he looked depressed and hardly spoke to anyone about his routine at the seminary.

Upon Mehtab’s insistence, Shahwar disclosed that when he was leaving for the holidays, the seminary in charge Pir Tanvir Malangi took him to his room and reportedly abused. Shahwar said Malangi also tried to molest him but failed as some students knocked on the door.

Mehtab the police the boy has refused to return to the seminary. Police registered a case against the accused under Sections 294 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Malangi has since gone missing. A search is
under way.
