JERUSALEM: Israeli police fought their way into Jerusalem's flashpoint Al Aqsa mosque Sunday to root out Palestinian protesters suspected of stockpiling fireworks and petrol bombs in preparation for a riot, police said.

"Masked rioters fled into the mosque and started to throw stones and blocks at police from inside Al Aqsa mosque. They threw fireworks directly at police," a statement said, adding that a number of police were wounded.

"In light of the severe confrontation and the escalating actions of the rioters and with the aim of preventing further injury to police... force entered a number of metres (yards) inside and closed the doors to the mosque with the rioters inside, restoring order."

But Hindus don't. How deep you want to go back into the history? Bamyaan Buddha in Afghanistan was constructed by Buddhists of India in their region as described by Chinese historians and travelers like Fahe Yaan and Huan Sang. Muslims invaders did not have the technology to destroy the gigantic statues until Saudi funds and Pakistani engineers helped its destruction in 1999 during the regime of Taliban. Actual destruction of Bamiyaan Buddha statues is shown in a documentary made by Germany, not India. How many Buddhists or Hindus resort to violence against Muslims? None.

It stands to reason that since it is the most holy site for Jews and only the third holiest for Muslim, the Jews should be in control. However the fairest solution is to follow the Turkish model, and convert the site into a museum, as the Turks did with the Hagia Sophia church in Istanbul. Then guarantee access to all.

When their homeland is occupied for last 67 years, the most sacred mosque is cordoned off by Israeli police and any body who is less than 45 years of age is not allowed to say prayer, particularly on Juma (Friday), then protests should happen. I am sure if Christians, Hindus and Sikhs are not allowed to go their faith places because they are under 45 years, then they would do the same., hope you understand now

Stop giving childish comment, if you dont know the reality. I spent a week in Palestine in July this year and I have seen the cruel handling of Palestinian by Israeli soldiers on daily basis. The people of Palestine are not rioters on the contrary, they are freedom fighter. They are fighting to free their land from the zionist occupation. They have every right to defend their own integrity, people and sacred places such as Al Quds.

hellboy | 8 years ago | Reply Now a days Mosque are best place for hiding petrol bombs,small ammunition with cocktail of religious sermon.After Friday prayer all riot starts.I have never known a Hindu coming out of temple,Sikh from gurdwara,Christian from church do riots after prayer.
