Criminal act: Imambargah trustee, social worker gunned down

KARACHI: A trustee and a social worker were shot dead in separate acts of targeted killings in different parts of the city on Saturday.

A trustee of an imambargah was gunned down in Morton Quarters within the limits of PIB Colony police station. Raees Ahmed Jafri, 50, son of Khalil Ahmed Jafri died on spot after being shot thrice. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later handed over to his family.

DSP Nasir Lodhi said that the deceased was the trustee of an imambargah located in Rizvia Society. The officer said that the incident took place when Raees was going to Karachi Central Jail for some reason when unidentified armed motorcyclists targeted him. According to the police, the deceased was also nominated in cases. His name was also included in Fourth Schedule. A case has yet to be registered while further investigation is underway.

Earlier, a social worker was shot dead in Jahanabad within the limits of Pak Colony police station. Abdul Majeed, 42, son of Abdul Amin was shot multiple times before he died on spot. His body was taken to Civil hospital for medico-legal formalities.

SHO Aslam Baloch said that the deceased was a resident of Lashari Muhalla of Pak Colony. Unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead when he was returning home after visiting someone. The deceased was a social worker while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained, SHO said.
