MITHI:

Tharparkar deputy commissioner (DC) Muhammad Asif Jameel inaugurated a concrete water tank with the storage capacity of two million gallons at Phangari, near Mithi.

The tank will store fresh water that will be supplied through Naukot pipeline, while the supply of water to Mithi and Islamkot from the newly constructed tank will start within a week.

The DC said that the tank was completed in 18 months by public health department and cost Rs15 million. In the second phase of the project, residents of Nagarparkar and Chelhar will also be supplied with fresh water through the new facility, he added.

Issues such as power breakdown, up-gradation or canal closures will not hamper the water supply because of the construction of the new water storage facility, the DC said.

Jameel said that the government is also constructing small dams and installing reverse-osmosis plants in different areas of the district to meet freshwater requirement in Tharparkar areas.
