PESHAWAR: A newly elected youth councillor from Pakistan Peoples Party, Yasir Angar, was shot dead by unidentified motorcyclists near Wazir Bagh Tuesday night.

He was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased was the president of PPP’s Yakatoot ward, the area from where he was elected, and also headed a youth organisation.

His associates said Angar had organised a night cricket tournament in Wazir Bagh and was heading home afterwards when he was ambushed outside the park.

The assailants managed to flee after shooting the victim, leaving him in an unconscious state.

Those associated with the youth councillor said he had no enemies.

However, police has suspected this was a targeted attack. An official said Angar had been shot in the head with a pistol.

Injured constable dies

Special Police Force Constable Shahab, who had been shot by unidentified gunmen in Khazana, died at the hospital after a days-long battle for survival.

“He suffered several bullet wounds to the legs and above the kidney which proved fatal,” said a police official deployed at LRH. His murderers, who left their motorcycle behind at the crime scene, remain at large.
