PESHAWAR:

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a flood warning for Eid holidays, saying that possibilities of a 2010-like situation cannot be ignored. The warning was issued after alerts were received from the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The Met office provided its forecast to the PDMA and highlighted the possibility of “heavy and very heavy” rainfall from Friday till Tuesday in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan. The possible downpours could be accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms.

PDMA Spokesperson Latifur Rehman said high alerts had been issued for all districts. “We have directed our district offices to keep in touch with their respective administrations,” Rehman said. “All staffers will keep their cell phones operational during Eid so they can be called in case of an emergency.”
