LAHORE:

The groundbreaking of the first Shehr-i-Khamoshaan – a public initiative for developing model graveyards – was held on Tuesday.

Adviser to Chief Minister Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan was the chief guest on the occasion at Kahna. MNA Rana Mubashar Iqbal and the Lahore commissioner were also present.

He said the government believed in the spirit of burial with respect.

Shehr-i-Khamoshaan is a project launched by the Chief Minister’s Special Monitoring Unit in collaboration with the city government. It will provide hassle- free burial services to the grieved families. These include a toll-free helpline, a hearse service, a shuttle service, a mortuary, a bathing facility and a janazgah.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority is responsible for executing landscaping of the plan. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2015. Sites have been identified for such graveyards in Multan, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.
