What a shot: Cricket tournament on 2nd day of Eid

Locals in Mohmand Agency have decided to celebrate Eid while promoting sporting activities for the youth during the occasion. Members of Tribal Reforms and Development Organisation will organise a cricket tournament on the second day of Eidul Fitr.

The initiative was taken to promote recreational activities in militancy-hit areas such as Utmanzai and Daweezai of Pandyali tehsil in the agency.

Giving details of the event to The Express Tribune on Tuesday, the organisation’s Mohmand chapter head Zakir Mohmand said arrangements have been made for the tournament.

The event will be held in close collaboration with the Mohmand political administration, the agency’s Directorate of Sports and FATA Secretariat.

The purpose of the event is to divert the youth from getting involved in drugs, organised crime and other such social evils. Zakir stressed such a move was vital for a region that had remained a hub of militancy from 2008 till 2010. An operation called Brekhna was also conducted in the agency.
