KARACHI:

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended a commander of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) while the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) foiled two smuggling bids.

The CTD police claimed to have arrested a local commander of TTP during a targeted raid in Baldia Town, seizing a hand grenade and a pistol from him. CTD officials said that the suspect, Aqal Nawab, was the TTP commander for Shamozai in Swat. "He was involved in terrorist attacks on a university and a police station in Swat but after the army launched Operation Zarb-e-Azb, he went underground and has been hiding in Karachi," claimed CTD incharge Mazhar Mashwani.

Meanwhile, ANF Sindh intercepted a bus near Super Waziristan Hotel on the main Hub River Road in Raees Goth, confiscating 137 kilogrammes of hashish. According to an ANF spokesperson, the drugs were kept in hidden compartments in the bus. Similarly, ANF officials detained two passengers, travelling to New Delhi, India, for interrogation at Jinnah International Airport. They claimed that 89 heroin-filled capsules were seized from the passengers during a search.
