KARACHI:

A caravan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters from Sindh left Karachi to participate in the party's much-anticipated rally in Swabi on November 9. However, the convoy, led by PTI Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, faced resistance as it reached Al Asif Square in Sohrab Goth, where a heavy police contingent tried to block their path.

Police used batons to disperse participants and arrested over two dozen PTI leaders. They were shifted to Sohrab Goth police station.

Despite the crackdown, Sheikh and his supporters managed to break through the blockade and continue their journey towards the Toll Plaza, where police again tried to halt their march. As the convoy entered Hyderabad, police seized several vehicles. Smaller groups of PTI supporters, however, picked alternative routes to continue their journey towards Swabi, in K-P. The caravan - which is expected to pass through Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Moro, and Sukkur - is now on its way to Swabi.

Speaking to the media at different stopovers, Sheikh condemned the police actions, accusing the PPP-led Sindh government of trying to suppress the peaceful democratic march.
