RAWALPINDI: The Rescue 1122 has held the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) responsible for the recent rain-related devastation in Rawalpindi. More than seven persons were killed and several others injured while several houses destroyed in low-lying areas by floods triggered by rainwater and choked channels. In a letter sent to the RCB, Rescue 1122 District Emergency Officer Dr Abdul Rehman has pointed out that several encroachments have been made along the banks of water channels which have choked the smooth flow of rainwater. He further said that at some locations houses and structures have also been built along water channels and pillars erected which constrict the smooth flow of water. “These encroachments and illegal constructions cause hurdles in the flow of water during rains, causing great loss to life and property, while the RCB’s anti-encroachment cell is turning a deaf ear to the issue,” the letter said.
