Over 35% fail 9th class exam

Pass percentage among private candidates plunges to 24.64

ISLAMABAD: More than 35 per cent students have failed the secondary school certificate (SSC) part-I exam conducted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

The board announced the result on Friday, with a pass percentage of 64.23.

A total of 88,321 regular and private candidates sat the exam. Of them, 56,725 passed.

The success ratio among the 73,904 regular students was 71.95 per cent with 53,173 passing the exam. Of the 14,417 private candidates, only 3,552 could pass the examination, with a 24.64 pass percentage.

In the Sciences group, 64,806 regular candidates appeared in the exam and 47,892 passed, against 2,656 private candidates out of total 10,455 candidates that appeared. In the Humanities group, 5,281 regular students passed the exam out of a total 9,098 candidates. Only 896 private candidates passed the exam in the group out of the total 3,962.

The result has been published at the board’s website. Students can also retrieve their result by sending their roll number to 5050.

Result cards of regular candidates would be sent to their respective students while private candidates will receive their result cards at home through post. Candidates who appeared in the exam from Gilgit-Baltistan will receive their result certificates at the board’s sub-office in G-B.

The officials reported 31 cases of “unfair means” during the exam this year. The board said 25 cases had been decided.
