Round-Up : Police arrest 1,337 beggars

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have arrested 1,337 habitual beggars from various markets and traffic signals during Ramazan. According to the Islamabad Police spokesman, 462 were sent to jail, 811 including 378 juvenile girls, 126 women, 46 children and 248 men to Edhi Homes while 64 children were sent to National Child Protection Centre. The police conducted a number of drives at commercial and residential areas, hospitals, traffic signals and bus stations to control begging. The Spokesman said that number of beggars has increased due to upcoming Eidul Fitr, however, a special campaign is being carried out by the police to curb this menace.
