K-P minister, nine others arrested over corruption charges

Official says Ziaullah Khan Afridi was arrested for violating the ban on the issuance of tenders

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission on Thursday arrested K-P Minister of Mineral Development Ziaullah Afridi and nine others on corruption charges.

“Yes, we have arrested provincial minister Ziaullah Khan Afridi,” a high ranking office-bearer of K-P Ehtesab Commission told The Express Tribune.

Afridi, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was arrested for misusing his authority and violating the ban on the issuance of tenders, according to the official.

So far, it couldn’t be ascertained where Afridi was arrested from and where he is being detained or interrogated.

Other arrested officials include Bannu Commissioner Asmatullah Gandhapur and K-P Mineral Development Director Ziarat Khan.

In May, in a major move against corrupt officials, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission arrested former provincial excise and taxation minister Liaquat Shabab in a case related to alleged illegal assets.

Reza | 9 years ago | Reply @Above politics: Afridi is arrested by the provincial set up,Ehtesab Commission of KPK headed by Hamid Khan. KPK is the only province with this sort of set up against corruption. We as people of Pakistan must read and gain knowledge about our admin and govt matters

Muhammad Salman | 9 years ago | Reply Dr. Abdul Wahab, the president of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University once said that we, the Pakistanis are "hasb-e-tofeeq Harami" You will find these people in every party, every group, they can be Sunni, Shia, Pathan, Punjabi, young, old, rich, poor in fact every body is corrupt in his capacity.but when the same people fly to any other civilised country they become the ideal citizen, best driver, honest employees and charitable entrepreneur. We only need a sincere leadership rest everything will get better gradually Insha Allah.

Hassan Humayun | 9 years ago | Reply @ Hassan, dear this scandal of corruption is disclosed by Ehtisab Commission recently structured by KPK government about 6 months ago, it's a provincial organization and does not work under NAB. Everyone knows that NAB caught the corrupt officials; make some deal, recover 10-20% of corruption amount and leave the culprits. So no need to praise NAB...

PMLN and its status quo allies are flooding the media against IK, since they can't find anything related to corruption against him, they propagate by picking on tiny things as u turn and threat to democracy. Huge difference in KPK as we see it closely - police and patwari culture is about diminish. Let's not get distracted by the negative propaganda by pmln and its ally ppp - let's keep on supporting pti in anyway we can. PMLN belongs to Sharifs, PPP belongs to Bhuttos, PTI belongs to us...let me know if u guys agree or disagree...

ANP's was famous for it's "Easy Load" modus operandi and yet despite being in power for two years, how many inquisitions of criminal wrongdoing have been initiated by the sitting PTI government against the functionaries of these previous governments?? Or are we to assume that the stories of corruption by ANP and MMA are mere innuendos drum beaten by PTI as a "Political Statement," just like the 35 puncture myth?

terba | 9 years ago | Reply @Adnan Siddiqi: It's unfair to be even attempting to draw any comparisons between Imran Khan's stature as an individual and Nawaz Sharif. IK might make faults here and there, but at least he is not a corrupt, avaricious and riches-hoarding politician as Mr Sharif. Clearly, the PMLN is perturbed by whatever novel steps are taken by IK...and this KPK Ehtesaab Commission will be no exception.

salman | 9 years ago | Reply @Adnan Siddiqi: Son, PTI are not a party of angels, there are bound to be a few bad apples in the bunch, just like there are bound to be a few good apples in pmln, the party of corruption, etc etc. What should be appreciated is that the minister had been arrested on corruption charges, unlike Punjab where Sharif bros and their fellow politicians collect corruption charges like kids collect comics. Also ironic that you are calling PTI member who was arrested gullu butt, where the original gullu butt is a card carrying member of the pmln equivalent of the third Reich's SS division. We all know you are in love with mian sahib, but you would do well to face reality sometimes, rather then acting like a Dallas cowboys cheerleader for pmln. Time to put those pom-poms down kid....

This is what Justice Wajihuddin was trying to draw the attention to but PTI as a whole has one corrupt after another perched at the very top who consider themselves untouchable because they fund all the personal expenses of their empty headed chairman. PTI is the biggest culprit of polluting politics with money and people like Jahaz Tareen, Aleem Khan and Azam Swati are prime examples.
