Pakistan responds to India's 'unprovoked' firing at working boundary

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani and Indian security forces on Sunday exchanged fire at the working boundary near Sialkot in a latest sign of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that Indian Border Security Force (BSF) resorted to ‘unprovoked’ firing in Charwah Sector.

“Pakistan Rangers are befittingly responding to India’s unprovoked firing,” said the statement as the exchange of fire continued till the filing of this report.

However, there were no reports of casualties from either side.

The latest exchange of fire comes amid reports that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi may meet later this week at the sidelines of Shangai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Russia.

Earlier on April 16, BSF resorted to unprovoked shelling but their guns fell silent after Pakistan Rangers effectively returned fire.

Hari Om | 9 years ago | Reply @Hassan Regards your fatuous claim of Pakistan’s innocence and India’s guilt, name the three countries, excluding Pakistan, that felt the need to shoot up India this week, just as three of Pakistan’s neighbours have in the past week felt the need to shoot up Pakistan? Nepal has forever been India's friend. Your best friend China does business with us 100 times in volume then it does with you. Afghanistan wants to be our friend and asks for our help for infrastructure and development. Iran is our traditional friend. So that leaves only one nuisance on the western border of India. Pakistan continuously do unprovoked firing only in Kashmir border to push india to complain in united nation and kashmir get internalize. if we want to unprovoked fire we have gujrat,rajasthan,punjab but we dont fire. Hope every pakistani use his mind to think who do unprovoked firing?

Pakistan needs to also do deep soul searching why these three neighbors do not feel the same need to indulge in similar cross border firing in dealing with their neighbors like Turkmenistan in Iran’s case, Tajikistan in Afghanistan’s sake or Nepal in India’s case. Ceasing to provoke neighbors particularly by fomenting cross border Sunni Islamic Terrorism will benefit the people of Pakistan greatly by having one less problem of mortar shelling among the myriads of problems assailing Pakistan, to deal with.
