RAWALPINDI: The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) once again resorted to unprovoked shelling on Sunday evening but their guns fell silent after Pakistan Rangers effectively returned fire.
According to the ISPR, the forces of the neighbouring country violated ceasefire on the Working Boundary in Shakargarh sector.
Earlier in January, Indian border guards mercilessly killed two Chenab Rangers personnel in cross-border firing near the Sialkot working boundary when they were heading for a meeting requested by the BSF. This had spurred a strong protest from Islamabad.
The BSF also fired gunshots and mortar shells at 25 border villages, including Chittar, Durman and Sukhmal, triggering fear and panic among the residents.

A similar incident took place on November 21, 2014 when Indian forces killed a Pakistani soldier in Pandu Sector near Muzaffarabad, only to receive a befitting response from Pakistan Army troops.

Recent exchanges of fire across the contentious border between the two arch-rivals have killed at least 20 civilians, injured dozens and forced thousands to flee their homes.
