The government is working on a plan to provide safe drinking water to the people, Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said on Tuesday.


He said the government has allocated Rs10 billion for wheat, Rs5 billion for the Ramazan Package, Rs3.5 billion for transport, and Rs10.8 billion to provide free medicines.

The government has set up the Punjab Social Protection Authority to provide protection to financially disadvantaged people. The authority will initiate its first project – a scholarship for disabled people. Rehman said Rs2 billion had been allocated for the project.

He talked about projects to upgrade drainage and sewerage systems in large cities. He said providing safe drinking water to the masses was the government’s priority. The government is also working on installing incinerators at public hospitals in order to dispose of hospital waste, he said.

Rehman said the government has also allocated Rs2 billion for the Idara-i-Akhuwat to provide interest-free loans under a self-employment scheme. He said Rs2 billion had also been allocated for a health insurance scheme.
