LAHORE:

Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resources Raja Ashfaq Sarwar on Monday urged the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology to resolve its disputes with the Punjab Workers’ Welfare Board.

He was speaking at a meeting regarding extension of lease of the land where the Lahore campus of the university is located. The land owned by the PWWB.

Sarwar said the lease had been extended for another term and urged the university to implement a 30 per cent quota in admission to various degree programmes for children of workers registered with the PWWB. He said the board had expressed concerns about the university’s failure to honour the quota. Sarwar lauded the performance of the university and said it was among the leading higher education institutes in the country. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer encouraged the university administration to submit a request to the government for allotment of land to relocate its campus. He said the government should be able to allot land to the university in a Lahore suburb or in Muridke.
