Swimming in river during flood season proves deadly

SWABI: A man drowned while swimming in a river in Swabi. The police said Javed, the son of Syed Mastan and a resident of Malikabad Gadoon, was swimming in Stefna river near Gadoon Industrial Estate and drowned.

Authorities have reported increasing levels of water in rivers; medium floods were confirmed in Nowshera and Peshawar on Wednesday.

In another fatal incident, 18-year-old Muhammad Irfan, son of Muhammad Riaz, drowned while swimming in River Indus near Hund in Swabi. Irfan’s body had not been found till the filing of this report.

As the summer intensifies and power outages continue, many people have drowned while trying to cool off in rivers and streams.

In the last two days, at least five or six cases of drowning were confirmed.

Meanwhile, the police found the remains of a young girl who was stabbed to death. Chota Lahor police officers found a body from the middle of fields in Jangi Dher. The deceased was identified as the 20-year-old daughter of Gul Baz.
