The long-awaited pre-monsoon showers arrived in the capital on Wednesday and provided relief to residents who had been facing excessive heat for the last week or so. The rain-thundershower continued for several hours since morning and brought down the soaring temperatures.


An official of the Met Office said the capital and other parts of the country received the first pre-monsoon shower on Wednesday and the downpour would continue till Thursday.


The official said the rain brought down temperatures and made the weather pleasant, however it would start turning hot from Friday onwards for a few days.


The official informed that the latest rainfall recorded from Wednesday morning was 24mm at Murree, 15mm at Muzzaffarabad while the twin cities received 10mm of rain.


Meanwhile, the Indus River System Authority on Wednesday released 354,647 cusecs water from various rim stations with an inflow of 416,904 cusecs.


According to the data released by the authority, water level in the Indus River at Tarbela Dam was 1471.24 feet, which was 91.24 feet higher than its dead level at 1,380 feet.
