QUETTA:

An accountability court on Tuesday convicted a Patwari and his wife in a corruption scandal and sentenced them to five-year in prison and slapped them with Rs30.65 million fine.

Accountability Court Judge Abdul Majeed Nasir convicted the couple for amassing assets beyond their known source of income. This was brought to light by a NAB Balochistan team. The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrants of others accused in the scandal, namely Chaudhy Naeem, Syed Izhar Hussain, Asghar and Ghulam Rasool.

During investigations NAB learnt that the main accused, Patwari Muhammad Rafique, possessed assets, including valuable agriculture land and commercial plazas. Other assets worth millions of rupees were also brought to light that could not be justified by a known source of income.
