LAHORE:

The government has completely failed to bring load shedding under control and provide any relief to the people in the hot weather, Jamaat-i-Islami leader Senator Sirajul Haq said on Monday.

Addressing party office bearers at Mansoora, Haq expressed sorrow at the loss of life due to the hot weather in Karachi.

“The rulers are trying to befool the masses through prominent advertisements in national newspapers that the problem of load shedding has been resolved. Had the federal and the provincial governments spent funds on public welfare projects instead of personal publicity, the energy crisis would have been over by now,” he said.

Haq said that the government had not been able to reduce electricity theft and line losses.

“Line losses can be reduced through up-grade of the transmission lines. However, the government seems to be totally indifferent to the problems facing the people,” he said.

“The corrupt and incompetent rulers are the main hurdle to the progress of the country. As long as they remain at the helm of affairs, the situation will not improve. The good of the masses lies in getting rid of dishonest rulers. People should elect honest, competent and dedicated representatives,” he said.

The JI chief urged the people to unite during the holy month of Ramazan and renew their struggle for the enforcement of the Nizam-i-Mustafa. “The struggle for the enforcement of the Islamic system is as obligatory as fasting. Allah Almighty commissioned the Holy Prophet (pbuh) with a complete code of life which requires replacing all man-made, false systems of belief. The Islamic system ensures just and equitable distribution of resources in society. It rejects exploitation and class-based societies,” he said.

Haq praised the opposition for boycotting the National Assembly proceedings to protest load shedding.
