FAISALABAD:

Scores of old transformers at the Reclamation Workshop of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) were gutted when a fire broke out in a transformer.

State Minister Chaudhary Abid Sher Ali had inaugurated the expansion of the workshop on June 13.

FESCO Spokesman Tahir Sheikh told The Express Tribune that the fire broke out in a power transformer at the FESCO headquarters near the Transformer Reclamation Workshop in the wind storm.

He said new transformers were also in the building but had been placed away from workshop scrap.

He said the fire had engulfed the scrap godown.

He said when the fire broke out, workers moved the new transformers to a safer place. He said billions of rupees were saved.

On being informed, fire fighters of Rescue 1122 and water tanks from Parks and Horticulture Agency (PHA) and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) were taken to the spot. They put out the fire after several hours.

The spokesman said FESCO chief executive officer Rasheed Aslam had constituted a team to submit a report on the matter as soon as possible.
