LAHORE:

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) on Sunday finalised a plan to deal with possible flooding of low-lying areas during monsoon rains.

WASA Managing Director Naseer Ahmad said that the chief minister had directed the authority to take special steps to deal with the inundation of certain localities in the city.

Ahmad said that heavy machinery would be deployed in such areas. “The authority has already carried out desilting of drains under the supervision of sub-divisional officers (SDO),” he said.

He said the WASA catered to the needs of 70 per cent of the population of the city. “We have the largest network of water supply and sewerage,” he said. He said water disposal pumps had been provided to mobile teams. “These teams will work 24 hours in the event of rains,” he said.
